Show Me the Science

At first glance, many people think Chinese medicine (which includes acupuncture and Chinese herbs) is hocus pocus. The truly curious and open-minded folks will investigate it for themselves and find that there is much validity to this system of healing with over 2,000 years of history. Modern research has proven again and again that acupuncture is effective for a wide range of ailments, though the exact mechanism of action in modern scientific terms has not yet been found. Until there is a tool that can measure qi (putative energy, as scientists call it), they never will be able to fully explain the mechanism of action behind Chinese medicine. Quantum physics comes close to explaining it, but they're not quite there yet.

So, whenever you hear "there's no evidence to support..." something that has survived several millennia, you should take it with a grain of salt. Chinese medicine would not still be around if it does not work. Patients are not dumb. They know what works on their own bodies. The placebo theory surrounding acupuncture has long been thrown out due to new evidence. Since modern science lacks the technology to perceive qi, the basic science research that "disproves" Chinese medicine should be disregarded. Clinical trials sometimes do not use Chinese medicine in the way that it works, so their results should also be considered invalid. Research that involves observational studies and case series show valid results regarding the effectiveness of Chinese medicine.

There is a growing number of allopathic physicians who have studied and are now advocating for Chinese medicine. Here are some videos featuring some of these doctors talking about how Chinese medicine works.
